Anobium is literature. Literature is more than words on a page. ∴ Anobium is more than words on a page.

As a conceptual entity, Anobium is the headbirth of Benjamin van Loon and “Mary J. Levine,” who doesn’t exist. We are a Chicago-based, independent publisher and multimedia resource specializing in the compilation of strange, surreal, and insectile literature.

While some portend the Death of the Book, they fail to realize that death for some is rebirth for others. Technology compliments our interaction with literature. It does not obliterate it.

Our productions incorporate obsessively conscious design and a fascination with the strangest creatures lingering on beyond standard literary and epistemic boundaries.

Some of our favorite writers are Franz Kafka, David Foster Wallace, Roberto Bolaño,Vladimir Nabokov, Jose Saramago, Sam Lipsyte, Haruki Murakami, Blaster “Al” Ackerman, Daniel A.I.U. Higgs, Rikki Ducornet, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Italo Calvino, Michael Chabon, Hunter S. Thompson, Jorge Luis Borges, Charles Baudelaire, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many others.

Some of our favorite artists and filmmakers are: David Lynch, Werner Herzog, Luis Bunuel, Maya Deren, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, René Magritte, Charlie Kaufman, Alex Cox, M.C. Escher, Errol Morris, Joel & Ethan Coen, and many others.
